I have been painting watercolours casually for about 10 years now but have become more serious about them about 3 years ago. watercolours are not easy to do and you only get one chance at doing them, unlike acrylics or oils where you can take your time and correct them at leisure. To paint what I call true watercolours is very difficult and sometimes it takes years to master even some of the basics that you need, as you will never master them completely you need to paint them quickly and loosely to get the best result, so forward planning is necessary I keep trying and I hope you enjoy my attempts at this difficult medium if you start with not too much detail as in the following small simple to paint landscapes / seascapes
Puddle duck size 7" x 7" approx |
paint loose greens in the background after light pencil drawing of the duck
Along the Foreshore size 7" x 7" approx |
Paint the background sky all the way to the bottom of the paper to show the reflection of the sky as in the water let it dry completely and then add the boat and fencing
Stow on the world in winter size 7" x 7" approx |
Paint in the background sky and some of the foreground the same colour then draw in the barn and paint and add a few trees
Thames Barge size 7" x 7" approx |
I took my time drawing this boat and then painted the background around it knowing the colour were darker and would cover any colour that went over the boat and sails
Winter in Somerset size 10" x 7" approx |
this is just a sky painted with lots of colour then using a ultramarine and alizarin mix just painted a random distant view of a town in the distance filled in the foreground with the trees and shadows
you can always add more detail after you have looked at it for a while and decide that these painting were not full enough or paint them on a larger piece of paper so as you can get more in
