getting started in watercolour also helping you with tips and tricks that i would have wanted to know when i first started painting watercolour

Chapter One
Watercolour Essentials

These are the most essential things that you will need to get you started in painting watercolours.
PAINTS [ Type and Colour's ]

Type's of paint that I use are Windsor And Newton, Artist Quality are the best and last longer on the paper light fast ect, but when starting out I used w&n Cotman Paint as it was a lot cheaper but the staying powers weren't as good as the artist quality,

I would also consider using Daler Rowney Paints which I find are slightly darker than the W & N type

Paint colour's to get you started

Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Indigo Blue, Alazarin Crimson, Naples Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange, cadmium red.

BRUSHES
I HaveVarious detail brushes that  use are mostly w&n cotman brushes starting at the smallest 111 size and other sizes up to a rigger brush which is a Frank Clark's brush

And for washing the paper and any other effect I need to create I use the following 1 inch flat brush 2 different size round brushes that I use for Washing the colour on wet into wet skies ect, and then I have two Terry Harrison brushes one round and the other flat I also have lots of other brushes but tend to use these brushes for everything all the time and buy a new one only when they get damaged or worn out

you will also need

PUTTY RUBBER TAPE PENCIL AND PENKNIFE

MIXING PALLET
Masking Fluid

SOME TISSUE ROLL
FINE SPRAY FOR WATER

A CLEAN WATER CONTAINER TO WASH YOUR BRUSHES
